15:27 - 16:17
Speaker 11
Okay, good to go.  I declare open this public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters for the inquiry into the twenty twenty five federal election.  In accordance with the committee's resolutions of 08/04/2025, this hearing will be broadcast on the Parliament's website, and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published on Parliament's website.  I remind members of the media who may be present or listening on the web of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of this committee.  We've got a number of committee members on phone link today, so we'll come to them for questions throughout the course of today's proceedings.

I now welcome Ms.  Carrie Beryl, MP, to give evidence today for the hand side record.  Ms.  Beryl, could you please state your full name and the capacity in which you appear before the committee?
16:17 - 16:21
Speaker 2
My name is Carol Beryl, and I'm the federal member for Whitlam.
16:22 - 16:47
Speaker 11
Although the committee does not require you to give under oath, I should advise you that this hearing is a legal proceeding of the Parliament and therefore has the same standing as proceedings of the respective Houses.  The giving of false or misleading evidence is a serious matter and may be regarded as a contempt of Parliament.  The evidence given today will be recorded by Hansard and attracts parliamentary privilege.  Ms.  Berry, I now invite you to make an opening statement before we proceed to discussion.
