Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security Australian Parliament
16:44 - 18:18
Speaker 4
I'd like to now declare open this public hearing of the parliamentary joint committee on intelligence and security for its review of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Amendment Bill No. Two, twenty twenty five. These are public proceedings, although the committee may agree to request to have evidence heard in camera or may determine that certain evidence should be heard in camera. I remind all witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee today, they are protected by parliamentary privilege unless you are given evidence from outside of Australia. It's unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to a committee and such action may be treated by the Parliament as contempt.
I remind all present that as Chair, I'll ensure the proceedings are conducted in an orderly, respectful and courteous way. In accordance with the committee's resolutions of August twenty sixth of this year, this hearing will be broadcast on the Parliament's website and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published also on the Parliament's website. The hearing today has been conducted with some members of the committee and witnesses appearing by video conference. Members and witnesses participating remotely are reminded to mute your microphones when not speaking. On that note, I'd like to now welcome representatives of the Law Council of Australia.
Good morning, and and look forward to your evidence today. Now for the hand side record, could I ask that you all please state your full names and the capacity in which you appear before today's hearing.
