If you take somewhere like Victoria where they would have felt that they had a fairly good regulatory surveillance system, they've now decided to move some of those things closer together to try and mitigate the things that you mentioned senator where things have not been connected connected up. I mean, I think, you know, from a child's rights point of view, we would say we need a regulatory system that's gonna protect all of their rights, and this isn't gonna happen. And that means investing in regulation and a system that is joined up and that will require investment. And also people who are able to look at the data and work out what's going on because I think the report that you're referencing does indicate that where you don't have those things, terrible things can happen. I mean, I think, you know, in many ways we still haven't gone that next step, is to join the dots in many of these situations and make sure that we haven't lost sight of what might be happening for a particular child and intervened early enough.

What do you think is the reason, or do you have any guidance or insight for us as to what the reason is why those dots are not being connected? Because that does seem to be a big part of the problem.

Look. I I think, if... In my working life, some of these big systems, like the early settings, have grown exponentially in the last five years. Our regulatory arrangements have not caught up. And so they need to be much more sophisticated than they've been in the past.
Regulation in many of the states and territories is really about out of home care and child protection. We haven't really thought about the regulation we need to keep children safe in the early city in the way we might have wanted to or had to. So I think that that is a work in progress. We hope to be intricately involved in how that's established across the states and territories. We'll have a lot to say about it if we don't think it's going well.
