Joint Standing Committee on Treaties Australian Parliament

Speaker 12
Members who've joined us this afternoon and our witnesses from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. I declare open this public hearing on the joint standing committee on treaties for its inquiry into the agreement to establish the Pacific Resilience Facility. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians, the land on which we meet today, and pay my respects to elders both past and present. I'd also like to extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who might be joining us today. In accordance with the committee's resolution of 07/31/2025, this hearing will be broadcast and proof and official transcripts of the proceedings will be published on the parliament's website.
I remind all present as chair, I will ensure that the proceedings are conducted in an orderly and respectful and courteous way. On that note, I do acknowledge that most of us are joining via online and remote, So please make sure that you use the hand function or text message or signal message if you wish to raise a question for any of our witnesses today. I remind members of the media for the need of fair and accurate reporting of the proceedings of the committee. I now welcome representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to give evidence today.
