Well, good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. It being 12:30, I declare open this meeting of the Public Works Committee of the Federal Parliament. Now this, this particular hearing relates to the inquiry into the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's Great Barrier Reef Aquarium Redevelopment Project. The committee's role is defined in the Public Works Committee Act of 1969 is to consider and report on the purpose and the need for the proposed works, the most effective use of public money that can be made in carrying out the works, and the present and prospective public value of the proposed works. In accordance with the committee's resolutions of 07/31/2025, this hearing will be broadcast on the parliament's website, and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published on the parliament's website.
I also remind members of the media who may be present or listening on the web of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the committee. I'm Tony Zapier, the chair of the committee. To my left, we have miss, mister Andrew Wilcox, the deputy chair, and senator Josh D'Liga to my right. We may also be joined online by miss Tanya Lawrence, senator Maria Kovacic, and mister David Smith are the members of the committee. If any committee members are participating via chorus call, I remind committee members participating to mute their microphones when not speaking and to give their name each time they speak to assist witnesses and to assist hand sign.
Participants on chorus call are reminded not to take another call or put their phones on hold during the teleconference as this may cause interference with the teleconference. I now welcome representatives from Townsville City Council, Queensland Museum, and the Port of Townsville Limited to give evidence.
