Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment Growth Australian Parliament

13:11 - 14:44
Speaker 1
I declare open this first public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on Trade and Investment for its inquiry into creating sustainable economic growth in rural and regional Australia.  I'd like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands from which we meet today.  For me, I'm joining this hearing from Adelaide, that's the Kaurna people.  And I also pay my respects to their ancestors and elders past, present, and emerging.  And I extend this respect to all aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their cultural and spiritual connections to Australia's lands and waters.

In accordance with the committee's resolution of the 08/27/2025, this hearing will be broadcast on the parliament's website, and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published on the inquiry website.  I remind members of the media of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the committee.  To assist with the transcription of the public hearing, it would be appreciated if everyone could please state their name before responding to each question.  In joining me, we have the deputy chair, Rick Wilson.  We have Rebecca Sharkey, MP, and we have Joe Brisky, MP joining as well.

I don't think I've missed anyone, but they're who we have here.  I'm now going to call on representatives from Austrade, DFAT, and Tourism Australia, and I'd like to ask each of you in the room to please state your full name and the capacity in which you're appearing before us today, and I'll I'll let you order yourselves in the
