Other disciplines in a team that sits around this person to connect them with supports that include case management, clinical supports, mental health supports, accommodation supports. And essentially, also a really important part of the model is that they work with peer mentors in some of the drug courts. And what the participants in drug courts say is that the peer mentoring is a critical part of the program that really supports their rehabilitation and recovery. In terms of evaluations, the drug courts in Victoria were evaluated by KPMG in 2023. That evaluation found cost savings of 2.09 for every $1 spent on the drug courts.
So it's essentially double money double savings on investment. They also found that participants who had completed drug court were 15% less likely to re offend than non drug court participants. So this was even higher sorry, that was all drug court participants, I beg your pardon, were 15% less likely to re offend. But participants who had completed the program, which in the Magistrates Court is up to two years and in the County Court of Victoria is up to four years, so a long intensive program. So if they completed the program, they were 27% less likely to re offend.
So a significant increase. And then where there was re offending, was found to be less serious, less frequent, and less likely to result in a future term of imprisonment.
