House Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability Australian Parliament
17:43 - 19:04
Speaker 5
Okay. I declare open this public hearing of the standing committee on health, care, and disabilities inquiry into the health aspects and impacts of alcohol and other drugs in Australia. I'd like to acknowledge the judicial custodian of the lands on which we meet and pay my respects to their ancestors and elders past, present, and emerging. I extend this respect to all aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultural and spiritual connections to Australia's lands and waters. Today's evidence may include material that some people may find distressing.
We encourage everyone present and those listening online to prioritize their own well-being and seek support if needed. In accordance with the committee's resolution of the 08/21/2025, this hearing will be broadcast on the parliament's website and the proof and official transcripts of the proceedings will be published on the inquiry website. I remind members of the media of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings to the committee. I remind all stakeholders who are present before us in ensuring the safety and privacy of individuals during these proceedings. This includes avoiding the use of names or identifying details when referring to other other parties, particularly children, and ensuring that any discussion is respectful, appropriate, and consistent with our shared responsibility to maintain a safe environment.
19:04 - 19:09
Speaker 59

19:10 - 19:18
