House Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability Australian Parliament

12:31 - 14:00
Speaker 8
This public hearing of the standing committee on health, aged care, and disability inquiry into health impacts of alcohol and other drugs in Australia, I'd like to acknowledge the additional custodians of the lands from which we meet today and pay my respects to their ancestors and elders past, present, and emerging.  I extend this respect to all aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultural and spiritual connections to Australia's lands of waters.  Today's evidence may include material that some people may find distressing.  We encourage everyone present and those listening online to prioritize their well-being and seek support if needed.  In accordance with the committee's resolution of the 08/21/2025, this hearing will be broadcast on the parliament's website, and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published on the inquiry website.

I remind members of the media of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the committee.  I remind all stakeholders who are present before us in ensuring the safety and privacy individuals during these proceedings.  This includes avoiding the use of names identifying...  Or or identifying details when referring to other parties, particularly children, and ensure that any discussion is respectful, appropriate, and consistent with our shared responsibility to maintain a safe environment.  I'd like to invite members of the committee to introduce themselves.
