Speaker 8
Okay. I declare open... Sorry. I declare open this hearing of the joint standing committee on Northern Australia. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet, the Yarru country and Yarru people, and pay my respects to their elders past and present.
I extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here today. The committee will be conducting today's hearing in person. Committee members attending here in the room, myself, Marion Scringer as the chair, senator Smith, and senator Whitaker. These are public proceedings being audio streamed live by the parliament's website, and a Hansard transcript is being made. I remind witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, are protected by parliamentary privilege.
