Speaker 37
I declare our opening public hearing of the House Standing Committee on Industry Innovation Science for its inquiry into the current state of the Australian tire industry and the challenges and opportunities for the industry within the context of the circular economy.  I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of land on which we meet and pay my respects to elders past and present.  I remind all witnesses that giving evidence to this committee they are protected by parliamentary privilege.  It is unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to a committee, and such action may be treated as...  By the parliament as contempt.

In accordance with the committee's resolution of 08/06/2025, this hearing will be recorded and broadcast to the parliament's website and proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published on the parliament's website.  I also remind members of the media who may be present or listening on the web of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the committee.  So this morning, I'd now like to welcome Charlie from ELT Recycling to give evidence of this public hearing today for the Hansard record.  Could you state your your full name and the capacity in which you appear?
16:45 - 16:51
Speaker 30
My name is Charlie Reading, and I'm the business development manager for ELT Recycling.
16:52 - 17:11
Speaker 37
Fantastic.  Although we're not required to give evidence under oath, I should advise you these hearings are a formal proceeding of the parliament.  Consequently, they warrant the same respect as proceedings of the parliament itself.  Giving false or misleading evidence is a serious matter and may be regarded as a contempt of parliament.  Do you wish to make an opening statement before we get to questions?
