Senate Select Committee on Intergenerational Housing Inequity Australian Parliament
11:57 - 12:14
Speaker 22
Think. Is that appropriate? House Hands up? Yes. Ready to roll.
Thank you, everyone. Morning, senator Bragg. There's no... Can't see senator Bragg's face. So I declare open this hearing of the senate select committee on intergenerational housing inequity.
12:14 - 13:24
Speaker 20
I begin by acknowledging the traditional owners, custodians of the land on which we meet, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of Ngunnawal country, and pay my respects to their elders past and present, and I extend that respect to any aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today. Committee will be conducting today's hearing in person and remotely. Committee members participating today include myself and joining me remotely, senators Brown, Kavacic, Mulholland, and Bragg. These are public proceedings being video streamed live via the parliament's website, and a hand san transcript is being made. I remind witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, they are protected by parliamentary privilege.
It's unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to the committee, and such action may be treated as a contempt. It's also a contempt to give false or misleading evidence. Witnesses also have a right to request to be heard in camera. If a witness objects to answering a question, they should state the ground upon which the objection is made, and the committee will determine whether it will insist on an answer having regard to the ground which is claimed. If the committee determines to insist on an answer, a witness may request that the answer be given in camera.
