In this public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties for its inquiry into the agreement on social security between Australia and The Republic Of Uruguay. I'm Lisa Testes, the chair of the committee and the federal member for Bendigo. And also joining us today is the deputy chair, Zoe Mackenzie, from the seat of Flinders, Andrew Brisky from the seat of Maribyrnong. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians on the land in which we all meet today and pay my respects to elders both past and present. I'd also like to extend that respect to any aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who might be joining us today.
In accordance with the committee's resolution of 07/31/2025, this hearing will be broadcast, and proof and official transcripts of the proceedings will be published on the parliament's website. I remind all members of the media of the need for fair and accurate reporting of the proceedings of the committee. I remind all present as chair, I will ensure the proceedings are conducted in an orderly and respectful and courteous way.
