Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Australian Parliament

15:30 - 16:21
Speaker 16
Is ready.  No worries.  I declare I open this public hearing of the Human Rights Subcommittee of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Trade in relation to its inquiry into gender equality as a national security and economic security imperative.  I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which we meet today, and I pass my...  On my respects to those past and present.

This hearing will be broadcast on the parliament's website, and the proof and official transcripts of the proceedings will be published on the committee's website.  I remind members of the media who may be present or listening on the web of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the subcommittee.  I now welcome representatives from the Australian Civil Society Coalition on WPS to give evidence today.  For the Hansard record, would you please state your name and the capacity in which you appear before the human rights subcommittee?
16:22 - 16:32
Speaker 13
Thank you.  I'm Lynne Miller Quitko.  I'm the cochair of the Australian Civil Society Coalition for Women, Peace, and Security, which I'll abbreviate to WPS Coalition.  Thank you.
16:32 - 16:39
Speaker 33
Although the subcommittee does not require you to give evidence under oath, I should advise you that this hearing is a legal proceeding of the parliament.
