Senate Select Committee on Intergenerational Housing Inequity Australian Parliament
20:32 - 21:34
Speaker 7
Great. Well, morning all. I declare openness hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Intergenerational Housing in Equity. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet and pay my respects to elders past and present, and I extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today. The committee will be conducting today's hearing in person and remotely.
Committee members participating today senator Pocock as chair, senator Mulholland, and joining remotely is senator Brown. These are public proceedings being video streamed live via the parliamentary website, and a hand saned transcript is being made. I remind witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, they're protected by parliamentary privilege. It's unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on accounts of any evidence given to us as a committee, and such action may be treated as a contempt. It's also a contempt to give false or misleading evidence.
21:34 - 22:24
Speaker 1
Witnesses have a right to request to be heard in camera. If a witness objects to answering a question, they should state the ground on which the objection is made, and the committee will determine whether to insist on an answer having regard to the ground which is claimed. If the committee determines to insist on an answer, a witness may request that the answer be given in camera. I also remind witnesses who are appearing via video conference and who are not speaking to mute their microphones. We have also had media in this room this morning, channel seven were about.
If anyone has any objection, just let me know if they reenter the room. I now welcome representatives from the Queensland University of Technology Centre for Justice in person. Thank you, doctor Newcomb and doctor Bryant for being here and doctor Pajani online. Good morning, doctor Pajani. Can you hear me okay?
