21:59 - 24:01
Speaker 11
Everyone.  I declare open this public hearing of the Standing Committee on employment workplace relations skills and training for its inquiry into the operation and adequacy of the national employment standard.  My name is Libby Coco.  I am a member of this committee.  We have the chair is being challenged this morning by by the transport system, and I'd like to just acknowledge that she is taking our public transport system.

Well done to her.  And she will be here, I would say, any minute.  But, due to time, we will commence.  I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of NAM, where we meet today, and for those viewing proceedings online, the traditional owners of the lands that they are on as well.  I pay my respects to ancestors past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultural and spiritual connections to Australian lands and waters.

In accordance with the committee's resolution, this hearing will be broadcast on the Parliament's website and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will also be published on the Parliamentary website.  I remind all present that, as well, in my role as acting chair for the moment, I will ensure that proceedings are conducted in an orderly, respectful, and courteous way.  Those present here today are advised that filming and recording are permitted during the hearing.  I remind members of the media who may be present or listening on the web of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the committee.  I now welcome representatives from the Chiefly Research Centre to give evidence for the Hansard record.

Could you please state your full name and the capacity in which you appear before the committee?
