15:30 - 16:26
Speaker 29
It's already.  They're on.  Well, good morning, everyone.  I declare open this public hearing of the Human Rights Subcommittee of the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Trade in relation to its inquiry into gender equality as a national security and economic security imperative.  I acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we meet today, and I pay my respects to elders past and present.

I also acknowledge the cultures of any aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people present with us today.  This hearing will be broadcast on the parliament's website, and the proof...  And the official transcripts of proceedings will be published on the committee's website.  I remind members of the media who may be present or listening on the web of the need to fairly and accurate...  Accurately report the proceedings of the subcommittee.

I now welcome representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to give evidence today.  For the hand side record, would you please state your names and the capacity in which you appear before the Human Rights Subcommittee?  You've probably been through this many.  Thank
