Open the public hearing of the standing committee of social and policy and legal affairs inquiry into the relationship between domestic family and sexual violence.  I'd like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the country in which we meet today and pay my respects to their ancestors and elders past, present, and emerging.  I extend this respect to all Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultural and spiritual connections to Australia's lands and waters.  This hearing will be broadcast, and a transcript of proceedings will be published on the parliament's website.  For those in person or listening online, please be advised that this hearing may contain evidence that could cause distress.
