Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee Australian Parliament
10:38 - 12:18
Speaker 9
Okay. Well, good morning, everyone. I'd like to now declare open this hearing of the senate's foreign affairs defense and trade legislation committee's inquiry into the defense force discipline amendment RC DVS implementation and related measures number one bill twenty twenty six. I wanna begin by acknowledging the custodians of the land on which we are meeting today and pay my respects to the elders past, present, and emerging. The committee will be conducting today's hearing via video conference.
And as chair, of the committee, I'm joined by the deputy chair, senator Collins, and other senators of the committee will also join today's hearing. These public proceedings being video streamed live via the parliament's website, and a hand side transcript is being made. I wanna remind all witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, they are protected by parliamentary privilege. It is an unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to a committee, and such action may be treated by the senate as a contempt. It is also a contempt to give false or misleading evidence.
Witnesses also have a right to request to be heard in camera. I want to remind senators of their obligations under the behavior code for Australian parliamentarians to treat all witnesses with dignity, courtesy, fairness, and respect. Remind committee members and witnesses that you are... Or who are appearing via video conference and who are not speaking to please mute their microphones. Now on that note, we'll move on to our first witness of the morning, and I'd like to welcome the honorable Peter Tinley.
