House Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs Australian Parliament
18:35 - 19:35
Speaker 14
I now declare open the public hearing for the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs inquiry into the relationship between domestic and family and sexual violence and suicide. I'd like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the country on which we meet today and pay my respects to their ancestors and elders past, present and emerging. I extend this respect to all Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultural and spiritual connections to Australia's lands and waters. This hearing will be broadcast and the transcript of proceedings will be published on the Parliament's website. For those in person or listening online, please be advised that this hearing may contain evidence that could cause distress.
If anything you hear today upsets you or causes distress, please reach out to 1800RESPECT, Lifeline, 13YARN, Kids Helpline or other support services. There is also the Parliamentary Workplace Support Service and Employee Assistance Program for broadcasting Hansard, the committee secretariat, the committee and its members' staff.
