Senate Select Committee on Intergenerational Housing Inequity Australian Parliament
16:20 - 18:13
Speaker 3
I open this public hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Intergenerational Housing Inequity. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land, the Whadjuk people of the Whadjuk Noongar country on which we meet, and pay my respects to their elders past and present. And I extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today. The committee will be conducting today's hearing in person and remotely. And committee members participating today include myself, Senator Barbara Pocock as chair, Senator Delega by video conference, and Senator Bragg is joining us by teleconference.
These are public proceedings being video streamed live via the parliamentary website and a Hansard transcript is being made. I remind witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, they are protected by parliamentary privilege. It is unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to a committee, and such action may be treated as a contempt. It's also a contempt to give false or misleading evidence. Witnesses also have a right to request to be heard in camera.
If a witness objects to answering a question, they should state the ground on which the objection is made and the committee will determine whether it will insist on an answer having regard to the ground which is claimed. If the committee determines to insist on an answer, a witness may request the answer be given in camera. I also remind participants who are appearing via video conference and who are not speaking to mute their microphones. So I now welcome representatives from People with Disabilities Western Australia, both in person and on video. Thank you so much for being here, and I understand that information on parliamentary privilege and the protection of witnesses giving evidence to committees has been provided to you.
Thank you. For the Hansard record, could you please state your full name and the capacity in which you appear today?
