House of Representatives Australian Parliament
10:08 - 10:18
Speaker 1
Honourable members, the Deputy Speaker.
10:18 - 11:23
Speaker 3
I acknowledge the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, who are the traditional custodians of the Canberra area, and pay respect to the elders past and present of all Australia's Indigenous people. Almighty God, we humbly beseech thee to vouchsafe thy blessing upon this Parliament, direct and prosper our deliberations to the advancement of thy glory and the true welfare of the people of Australia. Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive them that trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, amen. Give the call to the Leader of the Opposition.
11:23 - 12:43
Speaker 2
Deputy Speaker, I move that so much of the standing and sessional orders be suspended as would prevent the following. One, the order of the day for the resumption of debate on the Treasury Laws Amendment Tax Reform Number 2 Bill of 2026 being called on immediately. Two, debate on the second reading of the bill continuing for a period of no longer than one hour. Three, questions then being immediately put on any second reading amendments and on the second reading of the bill. Four, consideration in detail then proceeding immediately with the Leader of the Opposition being permitted to move amendments which are not relevant to the subject matter of the bill.
And five, any questions necessary to complete the remaining stages of the bill then being put immediately. Speaker, yesterday marked 90 days since Labor's bin fire of a budget. Bin fire of a budget. A budget full of toxic taxes. Taxes on housing, taxes on savings, taxes on investment, taxes on small businesses, some of the very hardest working Australians, on shares, on crypto, on every asset class.
