House Standing Committee on Employment, Workplace Relations, Skills and Training

27 August 2026

House Standing Committee on Employment, Workplace Relations, Skills and Training Australian Parliament

21:33 - 21:59
Speaker 18
I declare open this public hearing of the Standing Committee on Employment, Workplace Relations, Skills and Training for its inquiry into the operation and adequacy of the National Employment Standards.  I thought we might just do some quick introductions on who's on the line for our witnesses.  So I'm Carina Garland, I'm the Member for Chisholm and the Chair of the Committee.  I understand as well Ms McKenzie has lost her voice, so I will introduce her, the Member for Flinders, who is on the line.  Ms Lawrence?
21:59 - 22:03
Speaker 1
Good afternoon.
22:03 - 23:17
Speaker 16
And we may have people joining us dialing in as well.  And I'll update witnesses when they join us.  I acknowledge that where we meet today in various parts throughout the country have been meeting places for First Nations people for thousands of years.  I acknowledge the traditional owners of the land that everyone is meeting from today.  I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge any First Nations people who might be present with us today.

Now, in accordance with the Committee's resolution, this hearing will be broadcast on the Parliament's website and the proof and official transcripts of proceedings will also be published on the Parliament's website.  I remind all present that as Chair I will ensure that proceedings are conducted in an orderly, respectful and courteous way.  Those present here today are advised that filming and recording are permitted during the hearing.  I remind members of the media who may be present or listening online of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the Committee.  I now welcome representatives from the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and the Fair Work Ombudsman to give evidence.
