I open the public hearing of the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs inquiry into the relationship between domestic, family, and sexual violence and suicide. I'd like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the country on which we meet today and pay my respects to the ancestors and elders past, present, and emerging. I extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultural and spiritual connections to Australia's land and waters. This hearing will be broadcast and the transcript of proceedings will be published on the Parliament's website. For those in person or listening online, please be advised that this hearing may contain evidence that could cause distress.
