Joint Standing Committee on Treaties Australian Parliament

20:42 - 21:49
Speaker 7
Ready?  Rock and roll.  Excellent.  I declare open the public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties for its inquiry into the agreement between Australia and Canada on cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs matters.  I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians on the land on which we meet today and pay my respects to elders past and present.

I also extend that respect to any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples joining us today.  In accordance with the committee's resolution of 31 July 2025, this hearing will be broadcast and proof and official transcripts of proceedings will be published on the Parliament's website.  I remind all present that as acting chair I should say, I will ensure that proceedings are conducted in an orderly, respectful and courteous way.  I remind members of the media of the need to fairly and accurately report the proceedings of the committee.  I now welcome representatives from Australian Border Force and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to give evidence today.

For the Hansard record, would you please state your full name and the capacity in which you appear before the committee.
