Speaker 1
And welcome to the Northern Ireland affairs select committee. We have our session this morning on energy costs in Northern Ireland. Online, we have David Blevins, Blevins, and we are joined by William Irvin and Declan Pang. I'll start with, David. What impact does the recent rise in oil prices had on your industries?

Speaker 2
Good morning, Cher. Good morning, everybody. It has had a huge impact, not only in my industry, but obviously on consumers. We've seen a huge spike, 97% in the price of kerosene locally. And, again, that is due to the factors of the Iran invasion, or sorry, the American invasion of Iran and the closure of the Straits Of Hormuz.
It has had a huge impact on my members getting product and obviously the price that they have to pay for that product. We've seen a huge amount of panic buying by consumers, and no matter how many times you go out and tell people not to panic buy, it usually has the opposite effect. So it has had a a very deficit impact on the industry itself and, a fear factor, I think, for consumers thinking ahead to this winter.
