Childhood Vaccinations Committee House of Lords

00:06 - 01:55
Speaker 1
Good afternoon, and welcome to today's meeting.  This is the second oral evidence session as part of the committee's inquiry into childhood vaccination rates in England.  And thank you to doctor Tracy Chandler and professor Pruh Hobson West for attending.  The session is open to the public.  It is broadcast, and very soon, it will be accessible via the parliamentary website.

A verbatim transcript will be taken of the evidence, and it will be published on the parlory parliamentary website for all to see.  A few days after the session, we will send it to our witnesses in case they have any small corrections to make.  And in in addition to that, if they have any further information to provide to us, that will be very welcome as as well.  I I will ask the witnesses to introduce themselves briefly, when they answer the first question.  It is possible that there will be votes this afternoon.

And if that happens, I will have to suspend the recording and suspend the meeting just for about fifteen minutes.  And once a majority of the members have come back, we will start again.  It may take about fifteen minutes.  So the first question will be from me, and it is this.  What is the evidence of why childhood vaccination coverage in England has been declining in recent years?

What is the relative importance of different factors in influencing childhood vaccination coverage?  How is the relative importance of different factors changing over time?  And when you answer, can you give us an idea of the strength and weakness of any of the evidence that you cite?  So perhaps we could start with you, professor Hobson West.
