Order.  Order.  Welcome to, this oral evidence session of the education select committee.  I I'm delighted to welcome everybody to what is the penultimate evidence session in our inquiry on reading for pleasure in which we are trying to understand why reading for pleasure has declined so much amongst children and young people, and most importantly, to understand the good practice that can be deployed across the country to get children and young people reading for pleasure again.  So I'm very pleased to welcome our panel of witnesses this morning who represent, authors and the publishing industry and and to hear, about the role, that, you all have to play in this agenda.

So, can I invite our witnesses to introduce yourselves, to us, starting with Rebecca Sinclair?

Good morning.  I'm Rebecca Sinclair, and I'm chief brand of Penguin Random House, but I'm here in my capacity as president of the Publishers Association, which is the industry body that represents about a 150 academic education and trade publishers in The UK.  We are united by a fierce belief in the power of books and reading and that books should be for everyone and reading should be a right for all.  We're very committed to the National Year of Reading, and thank you for the invitation to contribute today.
