Environmental Audit Committee House of Commons

00:02 - 02:03
Speaker 12
To order order we'll welcome everybody to the first meeting of the environmental audit select committee of the new twenty twenty six, twenty seven parliament.  And we have a special session today on the government's national security assessment of global biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and national security.  For the benefit of those watching who aren't aware, this was a document evidently provided to internally within government as a national security assessment, that, was not intended, to be published, but, was ultimately published as a result of a freedom of information, request.  We understand, that the government's, the document the government published was, effectively the the highlights of such a report, not the non abridged version, which despite our request to see it, not so far been forthcoming.  But given that the report itself was both important and and fairly stark, this committee wished to have a session to discuss the the specific findings within that report and learn more about it.

And we have with us a distinguished distinguished panel.  Panel.  I'm I'm gonna gonna invite each of them to just introduce themselves and their particular area of expertise as it pertains to this report.  So if we could start on my left, mister Labourne.  Thank you.

My name is Laurie Labourne.  I'm executive director of the strategic climate risks initiative think tank, and I also hold fellowships at Chatham House, the University of Exeter, and the Institute for Public Policy Research.  And my work focuses on the very complex escalating threats to our security that now, here and will only grow as a result of climate change and nature loss.  Excellent.  Thank you.
