We discussed the amendment nine.  The question whether it should be made to clause 20, and the minister was speaking.  Minister.

Speaker 2
First of all, mister chairman, if you will, I'd like to make a correction to earlier statement about new clause 12, before I continue to address amendment nine.  I'd like to clarify a point which arose in the debate on new clause 12 relating to the service protection orders.  The powers in the Armed Forces Act 2,006 creates a time limit for charging former members ex regular reserves with a service offense committed or subject to service law of six months from the date they ceased to be subject to service law.  After a period of months from the date they ceased to be subject to service law, the person may be charged with a service offense committed or subject to service law and the consent of the attorney general.  They do not remain subject to the service law once they have left the armed forces and the same time period applies also to civilians subject to service law.

If there is any questions about the detail of that, I'm happy to write back to the committee on anything specific to this report.
