I beg to move that the committee has decided the draft Hovercraft Application of Enactment Amendment Order 2025, which was laid before this House on July 1.  It's a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, and this is the hub house.  The purpose of this order is to ensure that the full range of maritime legal powers currently available in relation to ships are also available to make regulations for hovercraft operating in the United Kingdom.  We can be proud of the industry as the only commercial hovercraft application.  We think that in the world, my officials searched in vain for anywhere else.

We manufacture hovercraft for a range of measures in this country, the UK, and it's one of our great exports.  So, I'm delighted to speak about it here today.  Yes.  Christopher Cochrane, in the fifties, I think, came up with the modern-day design of the hovercraft, which did the Dover Straits in 1959, although it was Manuel Swedenburg in, let me check, 1716 who actually came up with the concept before it could actually be invented properly.  Now, the UK has one commercial hovercraft operation, comprising two hovercraft which operate in shore waters between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.
