To move this house to consider the support of Open Museum.  It's a pleasure to serve under your chairship, miss Lille.  Colleagues will know that I'm incredibly proud to call Thorough home.  I'm the first local MP who was born and raised in the constituency, and it's an honor to represent the people I grew up alongside.  Thorough has a fighting spirit.

Our small part of the world punches well above its weight with thriving ports, historic forts, the river on our doorstep.  Geographically, we sit right where the Thames starts to narrow on its way into London.  And because of this strategic location, we've always served as a gateway into the city.  It was Thorough where Queen Elizabeth rallied her troops to fight off the Spanish Armada, where brave ordinary people gathered and prepared for the d day operations, and where the empire wind rush disembarked, bringing all those who answered the call to help restore and rebuild after the war.  Our history has shaped this country, and it is only right that it is recorded, remembered, and celebrated.

And this is where our local museums play a critical role.  They keep our local histories alive and engender a sense of pride in where we're from.  They show young people like my daughters who are growing up in Thorough, which, to be honest, doesn't always get the attention it deserves, that they are right to be proud of the place they live.  That's why I'm so grateful to have such fantastic local museums on our doorstep.  The Thorough Museum is a prime example.
