Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all for attending this press conference, which marks the conclusion of the meeting of the G7 environment ministers. As you know, for the past two days, all delegations have been gathered here at the Ministry for the Ecological Transition to work on joint statements. These discussions follow several months of work carried out under the French G7 presidency. So I would like to thank everyone involved, all the teams who made it possible. And thanks to them, we have been able to achieve very satisfactory results.
Seven declarations have been adopted by all G7 partners, as well as by South Korea, Armenia, and Mongolia. Against the backdrop of the current challenges to environmental multilateralism, these results are truly exceptional. They attest to the relevance of our approach, which has sought to preserve the unity of the G7, because this forum must remain a space for fruitful dialogue regardless of political changes. This led us to focus discussions on priorities likely to achieve consensus. And climate change, to put it bluntly, is not directly among them.
That is why we did not wish to tackle this issue hidden, because if we had done so, then we would have run the risk of certain partners walking away from the negotiating table and thus achieving nothing at all. This is not a choice of lesser ambition. It is a choice of effectiveness. And we have discussed climate-related issues throughout our talks covering the oceans, biodiversity, draft, and water. All these topics are at the heart of climate discussions.
