Committee House of Commons
00:11 - 00:53
Speaker 3
Order, order. I call to order today's House of Commons Defence Committee evidence session with the new Secretary of State. It is an absolute delight to have the Right Honourable Wes Streeting MP, the Secretary of State for Defence, for his first outing with the Defence Committee. It is also a pleasure to have back with us Jeremy Pocklington, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, and also welcome back Air Marshal Tim Jones, who is the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff Force Development. Secretary of State, thank you very much for appearing before the Defence Committee and formally, on behalf of the committee, congratulations on your new post.
00:53 - 00:55
Speaker 1
I know it's not quite as new now since you took charge.
00:55 - 00:57
Speaker 2
It feels like a long time ago.
00:57 - 01:10
Speaker 3
Long, long time ago back in July. But look, you've now been in post for nearly three months. What is your initial assessment of the main challenges facing UK defence?
