Committee House of Commons

00:02 - 01:15
Speaker 8
Order, order.  Welcome to this afternoon's evidence session, the fifth session of our scrutiny on the government's draft Heathrow Expansion National Policy Statement.  We're going to welcome Chris Hinchcliffe, MP, joining us as a guest from the Environmental Audit Committee.  We'll be hosting two panels this afternoon.  During our first panel, we'll be hearing from the community campaign supportive of the expansion plans and from leaders of residents' associations in the Heathrow area who have a variety of views.

And in our second panel, we'll be hearing from representatives of the Climate Change Committee, who recently published their formal advice to government on the proposed expansion of Heathrow Airport.  And could I also remind members of the committee to introduce yourselves before directing questions to the witnesses?  And I think everybody, I recognize many people sitting in the public gallery, but I think you know that speaking from the public gallery is unfortunately not permitted during committee proceedings.  So, could I ask our first panel of witnesses to introduce themselves?  Parmjit.

Speaker 11
Hello, I'm Parmjit Dhanda of Back Heathrow.  We're a campaign of 105,000 people who live predominantly close to Heathrow.  Over half of those live within eight miles of the airport.  And yes, we'd like to see the growth and opportunities that come with a new runway.
