Ever so much, Ms. Butler, and it's a pleasure to serve under your chairing this morning. And can I also congratulate myself for securing this debate? And it's actually come as a little bit of a surprise to me because I thought there would have been an overwhelming clamour to secure this debate to celebrate the 10 years of the Brexit referendum.
I really thought they would be tripping over themselves to try and ensure that they could give us this debate to tell us all the wonderful things that has happened since we had that referendum some 10 years ago. It was the opportunity to go wandering through those sunlit uplands, to celebrate this dynamic political and economic growth, the political stability that was secured, immigration under control, and all the wonders of our new-found freedoms. Do you remember, Ms Butler? We were going to have our cake and eat it. We were going to secure the easiest trade deal in history.
And of course, we were going to take back control.
