Environment and Climate Change Committee House of Lords

00:05 - 01:15
Speaker 1
Good morning and welcome to the Lords Committee on the Environment and Climate Change.  Today we will be continuing with our inquiry into pet parasite medications, hearing from representatives of the pet health industry.  Before we start, may I remind everyone that the session will be webcast live and that a transcript will be taken and made public.  Witnesses will have an opportunity to review the transcript and if necessary make very minor amendments.  Members are reminded that they should declare any relevant interests the first time they speak, and I should stress that this applies equally to all witnesses.

I will take the opportunity here to say that I'm a director of Peers for the Planet.  So may I start by extending a very warm welcome to our panel of expert witnesses this morning, representatives from the pet health industry.  May I ask each of you to briefly introduce yourselves, starting with Dr Wright, then Dr Murphy, then Dr Skelly.

Thank you very much, thanks for the invite.  I'm Ian Wright, I'm a veterinary practitioner, parasitologist and researcher.  I work in and co-own a practice in Fleetwood, beautiful idyllic town on the Lancashire coast.  But I'm also chair of the European Scientific Council for Companion Animal Parasites, ESCCAP.  We give parasite advice, supply materials in relation to parasite control.

I need to declare that ESCCAP is a body funded by diagnostic companies and pharmaceutical companies, and I myself have done talks and written articles for, well, myriad of people, including diagnostic companies, pharmaceutical companies, BSAVA, BVA, among others.

The rest of the transcript is for Pro customers
