Scottish Affairs Committee House of Commons
00:03 - 00:27
Speaker 3
And welcome to this meeting of the Scottish Affairs Committee where we would like to discuss with our colleagues from Ofcom issues relating to STV and also probably a little bit about Gaelic broadcasting as well. So very grateful to you for coming along this morning and giving us your time. Could you just briefly introduce yourselves and say what your role is? Thank you.
00:27 - 00:48
Speaker 2
I'm Glenn Preston. Thank you, Chair, very much for having us. I'm Glenn Preston, Ofcom's Scotland Director. So I head the Ofcom Scotland team which is based up in our Edinburgh office where we represent Ofcom right across our regulatory responsibilities and I'm Ofcom's senior leader in Scotland. We have about 130 colleagues based in Edinburgh now who do a whole range of jobs across Ofcom's regulatory responsibilities.
00:48 - 01:02
Speaker 1
Thank you. And I'm Cristina Nicolotti Squires. I'm the Group Director of Broadcasting and Media Ofcom. So I lead the team that carries out our regulation. I joined Ofcom a couple of years ago after 35 years in journalism.

Thank you both very much. If I can just start by asking a couple of questions about Gaelic broadcasting. The first of them is that it appears to us that there are several bodies involved in Gaelic broadcasting between Ofcom, MG ALBA and BBC and of course the Scottish Government have an interest too. So to what extent does that complexity create governance challenges or does it create governance challenges and would there be a risk that because that responsibility is shared among so many organisations that no single body has ownership of the long-term future of broadcasting in Gaelic?
