Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme Australian Parliament
11:07 - 12:51
Speaker 1
As it has gone 8:00, we will begin.
I'd like to declare this hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on the National Disability Insurance Scheme for its inquiry into the annual report number two of the 48th Parliament. I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people, and pay my respects to their elders past and present. I extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people here today or online with us. The committee will be conducting today's hearings in person at Australian Parliament House and via video conference. And for those with us in Canberra today, I'd just like to say what a beautiful day it is.
It's a beautiful blue sky day. These are public proceedings, as I've said, video streamed via the Parliament's website and a Hansard transcript is being made. I remind all witnesses that in giving evidence to the committee, they are protected by parliamentary privilege.
It is unlawful for anyone to threaten or disadvantage a witness on account of evidence given to a committee, and such action may be treated by the Senate as contempt. It is also a contempt to give false or misleading evidence. Witnesses also have the right to request to be heard in camera. I would like to acknowledge that the NDIA has made available a number of officials in the room today to support any witnesses who would like to speak with them and access their support throughout this hearing. Please let the secretariat know if you would like to speak with the officers present.
