Joint Standing Committee on Implementation of the National Redress Scheme

10 September 2026

Joint Standing Committee on Implementation of the National Redress Scheme Australian Parliament

19:42 - 20:57
Speaker 1
Welcome everyone.  I will open, declare open the public hearing of the Joint Standing Committee on the Implementation of the National Redress Scheme's inquiry into the continuing operation of the National Redress Scheme.  I'd first like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people, and pay my respects to elders past, present, and emerging, and indigenous peoples across Australia.  I also wish to acknowledge that it's National Child Protection Week from the 6th to the 12th and reaffirm its powerful message that protecting children is everyone's business and we all have a role to play, whether we are parents, carers, community members, educators, service providers, policymakers, or neighbors.  I remind all present that as chair, I will ensure the proceedings are conducted in an orderly, respectful, and courteous manner, and this hearing will be audio broadcast and the transcripts of the meeting proceedings will be published on the Parliament's website.

And now I'd like to invite all members of the committee to introduce themselves, and I will start with Richard on my left.
