Senate Australian Parliament
00:00 - 00:43
Speaker 4
I thought difficult to express. If every objection is called hate, every inconvenient fact misinformation and every traditional belief harmful, eventually people will just censor themselves. The dictionary becomes a fence and once that fence is built, the prison doesn't need bars. This is why I defend free speech so strongly. Free speech protects free thought.
And without the freedom to think, speak and argue openly, we are not truly free. We must resist the policing of language and defend the right of all of us to call things the way that we see them, even if others are offended. That is the essence of freedom.
00:43 - 00:45
Speaker 1
Senator Darling.
00:45 - 01:12
Speaker 5
Acting Deputy President, well there's some very good news for the people of Risdon Vale just outside of Hobart on Tasmania's eastern shore. The Tasmanian government is opening a new GP clinic that will provide 20,000 fully bulk-billed appointments every year. And I welcome it. But it's worth explaining what makes those appointments possible. The state government, yes, is providing the clinics, but the appointment is powered by Medicare.
