Built Environment Committee House of Lords
00:04 - 01:21
Speaker 19
Welcome to the House of Lords Built Environment Committee. We have just started a new inquiry as part of our broader inquiry into the government's plans on new towns and expanded settlements. And last week we started a session which we're calling Bricks and Mortar. It's about some of the physical and logistical issues around building these new towns and what stops them and how do we get them going. Today we are focused, we've got two sessions.
The first one is going to be on construction skills and we've got three witnesses before us. First is Sam Egan, who is a group director of construction at Bedford Colleges Group. Next we have Jonathan Mitchell, the deputy director at Skills England. And then on the end there is Simon Rawlinson, the deputy chair at Construction Industry Council. Thank you very much all three of you for coming along today.
I think you know we've got a series of questions scattered amongst the team here. All I'd ask is both for witnesses and colleagues alike to keep questions and answers as short as possible. If you don't know the answer, please don't feel compelled to fill the air. Equally, if you'd like to write to us after the meeting with some additional information, please say so. That is absolutely fine for us.
First up, we have Lord Bailey.
