Science, Innovation and Technology Committee Actual start House of Commons
21:56 - 23:01
Speaker 1
And welcome to today's session of the Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee. And I really have a huge, give a huge thank you to all our, to our witnesses and indeed the members of the committee who have made it here despite the temperature in London and in this room.
Um, we're aiming to keep the meeting, um, on time. And, uh, if there's if there's any concerns or if there's any we need to take a break, please just let me know if the heat becomes too much. So this is the committee's fourth and final evidence session in our inquiry into innovation and global food security. So we're hearing from officials from UKRI, the FCDO, and Defra. And we're going to be using this session to draw together the evidence received over the the course of our inquiry into this sort of highly topical and incredibly broad subject of innovation and global food security.
And, um, I am going to ask Freddy to start off questioning.
23:01 - 23:29
Speaker 2
Thank you, Chair. So, um, yes, I'm going to ask the start of ten questions. So please also use that as an opportunity to introduce yourself and kind of describe what your organisation does. Um, so the first question I have is basically around the fact that the UN has suggested that more than 600 million people are going to face extreme hunger by 2030, not that long away now. Um, so what role do you think the UK should have in helping to reduce world hunger?
