Health Bill Actual start House of Commons
15:26 - 16:05
Speaker 2
Order. We're now sitting in public and the proceedings are being broadcast. Before we begin, I'd like to remind members please switch electronic devices to silent. Tea and coffee are not allowed during sittings, but there's loads of water. Silver is fizzy, blue is flat.
And I'm happy to give a sort of blanket permission for people to take off their jackets, because I think officially you're meant to individually ask me, but given the heatwave, we've, have it off if you like. Okay. We now come to group 53 and new clause 6. I call Helen Morgan to move the new clauses. Helen Morgan.

Thank you very much, Dr. Huq.

It's a pleasure to serve with you in the chair. New clause 53, sorry, new clause 6 requires the creation of a health data charter, which includes measures to protect data so as to ensure privacy and reasonable usage. Patients should be in control of their data. As we've discussed in previous sessions, we don't think the bill goes far enough to provide reassurances in this regard. Everyone agrees with the need for the single patient record, but there's a genuine risk that I don't think anyone in this room wants to see, that it could be derailed over very understandable and reasonable data privacy concerns.
