Committee House of Lords
00:06 - 00:48
Speaker 4
Good morning and welcome to today's meeting, which is the sixth oral evidence session as part of the committee's inquiry into the regulation of the consumer insurance market. And thank you to Mr. Timpson for attending. So perhaps we can start off by if you can explain the role of the Financial Services Consumer Panel and then give us a good idea of how it works with the FCA, what your access to information is, what the relationship that you have in terms of working on problems that you have identified. So the floor is yours to explain what you do.

Speaker 2
Well, thank you, Lordship, and good morning, committee. I'm Johnny Timpson. I sit on the Financial Services Consumer Panel, but I equally have some other hats to wear as well. So before, if I may, before I go any further, I should maybe just for purposes of transparency, I think it's important just to confirm what those other roles are, because it may touch on some of the discussion that we have. In terms of remunerated roles, I do sit on the Consumer Panel.
I sit on the TrustMark Consumer Protection Panel. I'm a non-exec chair of Absolute Military, which is a specialist military insurer that's almost not-for-profit that serves the armed forces, armed forces communities and families and veterans. And I'm also chair of an organization called MorganAsh, which works across essential regulated sectors, financial services, water, energy, telecoms, to help those organizations get smarter with their data and identify struggling and potentially vulnerable customers before an issue crystallizes and a drama becomes a crisis. In terms of pro bono roles, I sit on the Financial Inclusion Commission. I'm chair of the Building Resilient Households Group.
I sit on the DWP-led Retirement Experience Member Group. I've been part of the Democratic Deliberation and Pensions Campaign Group. And I've got a couple of advisory roles. One of the most prominent ones is I guess I work with the Surviving Economic Abuse charity and We Thrive domestic abuse consultancy to advise them on financial services issues. I'm also a trustee of TrustMark, which provides free legal services to people at end of life.
