Welcome to today's meeting. This is the 13th oral session as part of the committee's inquiry into childhood vaccination rates in England. I'd like to thank and welcome our witnesses today, Baroness Gerada, Ruth Tennant, and Professor Andrew Furber for attending today. The session is open to the public. It's going to be broadcast live and it'll be subsequently accessible via the parliamentary website.
We will be taking a verbatim transcript of the evidence and that will be published on the website as well. A few days after the session, our witnesses will be sent a copy of the transcript. So if you come across any little mistakes, please let us know as quickly as you can so we can get it up onto the website, corrected of course. What are the strength and weaknesses of the government's approach to reversing the decline in childhood vaccination coverage and reducing inequalities, and to what extent does the government's approach to childhood vaccination form part of a coherent approach to public health and prevention? Yes, thank you very much, Chair. And by way of introduction, I'm Ruth Tennant. I'm a Director of Public Health in Solihull in the West Midlands, and I'm also here representing the Association of Directors of Public Health. So as far as the association view goes, we've clearly had a national strategy around vaccination. There's a lot in that that I think we would welcome in terms of setting a really important strategic framework for vaccination and a lot of key elements in there that are really important in improving access to vaccination and take-up of vaccination.
