Good afternoon, good evening everyone and welcome to this press conference following the second meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council under the Irish presidency. Intervenant 1
Thank you, Padraig. Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I would like to thank Commissioner Hansen and my EU counterparts for a very productive first day of the at the September meeting of the Agrifish Council.
This afternoon, we discussed the market situation. I would like to thank Taras Vysotskyi, the Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, for traveling to join our meeting in person to brief us on the severe impact which Russia's ongoing war of aggression is having on Ukraine's agricultural production and on the transport routes for its food and feed exports. The Irish Presidency and the European Union stand in full solidarity with Ukraine, and we will continue to support Ukraine. Today's meeting also focused on progressing the discussions in the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy. This is a central priority for the Irish Presidency, and my ambition is to reach a partial general approach on the CAP regulation next month during the October Council.
I was encouraged to hear continued support for this ambition from member states today in our discussions. We had a constructive discussion this morning, and now we will work closely with all member states over the coming weeks to prepare for agreement at the October Council. The CAP speaks to all three themes of the Irish Presidency: competitiveness, values, and security. The CAP is key to competitiveness because it drives supports, economic activity on our farms and in our rural communities, and their security.
