Industry and Regulators Committee House of Lords
00:06 - 00:57
Speaker 1
Good morning and welcome to this, which is the fourth session of the Industry and Regulators Select Committee, which is doing an inquiry on the relationship between the government and the defence and related industries. My name is Diane Hayter and I will introduce other members of the committee as they, as they put questions. This is being broadcast live on Parliament channel and there will be a full Hansard record taken. You'll have the chance to look at that in case they've misheard any words you used and after that that will also be up on the website. So we do have some questions for you, but if you would like to both just introduce yourselves first, that would be helpful.
00:57 - 01:34
Speaker 2
Good morning. My name is Chris Blackford, I'm the Director of Strategy at Monstercam. Monstercam is based on the south coast and we are a supplier of large-scale composite patterns, moulds and components. So if you think in sort of very simple terms, marine market, we build superstructures on very large yachts and then in the defence space, which we're here for today, we build hulls and structures for sub-surface and surface vessels.
01:34 - 02:05
Speaker 3
Okay, my name is Chris Newland and I work for a company called Advanced Integrated Technologies. We specialise in advanced technologies for the defence, mainly defence sector now. We used to produce wind turbine renewable products, but we get involved in radomes for ships, navigation systems, unmanned air vehicles, counter-unmanned air vehicle systems. And I've been doing that all my working life since the 1980s, so have a pretty good grasp of the industry and a lot of products.

Well, thank you for that. You didn't have to give away your age by that. Well, thank you for that and if I may, I'd like to start with a fairly general question if I may. You'll be very, very familiar with the last year's Strategic Defence Review and it was that that called for the creation of a new relationship between government and the defence industry. And I'm interested to hearing from both of you what both cultural and also practical changes are now needed to bring about that new partnership, and particularly with an eye towards supply chain companies.
