Order, order.

Speaker 2
The draft Justification Decision (Generation of Power by the RR SMR) Regulations 2026.
00:20 - 00:40
Speaker 4
I call the Minister. Any honorable member or official who wishes to take off their jacket has the chair's permission to do so. Minister, would you be good enough to move the motion?
00:40 - 01:35
Speaker 9
Thank you so much, Mr. Chairman, and what an extra, extra pleasure to serve under your chairmanship as it's slightly less warm than I was a few moments ago. I beg to move that the committee has considered the Justification Decision (Generation of Power by the RR SMR) Regulations 2026, which were laid before the House on the 3rd of June 2026. These regulations are an important step towards enabling the deployment of Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor, or Rolls-Royce SMR, in the UK, supporting our energy security, net zero, and economic growth. They give legal effect to the Secretary of State's decision that this technology is justified under the UK's regulatory framework for practices involving ionizing radiation. They do not approve to build, use, or fund small modular nuclear reactors, just that legally the Secretary of State's decision was justified.
