Welsh Affairs Committee House of Commons

Speaker 4
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this oral evidence session of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee.  My name is Ruth Jones, I'm the chair of the committee and today is the committee's third session for the inquiry into cross-border healthcare arrangements between England and Wales.  Now yesterday the committee heard evidence from the seven local health boards in Wales which did raise some concerns about the opacity of the cross-border healthcare process.  So we're very grateful today to have the members from the NHS Joint Commissioning Committee before us to hopefully shed some light on how the cross-border healthcare operates.  So I want to say thank you so much to the three of you for appearing in person before us today.

Before I begin though, can I just check that any members have any interest to declare?  No, that's fine.  Okay, we're going to carry on.  So can I begin by asking you all briefly to introduce yourselves and your role within the JCC?  Shall I start with Juliet Brown please?

Thank you and thank you for inviting us here today to talk about something that's really important, people accessing good quality outcomes and healthcare.  I'm Juliet Brown, the Chief Commissioner for the Joint Commissioning Committee.  I will be totally honest, this is about my 12th day in post, so please do bear with me.  I will try my best to answer the questions you direct to me but I may need to bring my colleagues in to support and obviously if there's anything we can't answer we'll take away and bring back, but it's very nice to meet you all.  Thank you.
